So, I had to pump sludge and clean out my oil/water separation system. Thought I'd take you on a little walk through. This is a system where I remove oil from water with a mopping system then clarify and remove dirt and heavy metal deposits with clarification chemicals from the water and every month or so the left over waste must be cleaned out. It's a terrible nasty, grey, smelly sludge.

Lonewolf, it is noisy but I think the video makes it seem worse than it really is. From years of being around loud diesel engines and heavy machinery my hearing isn't the greatest anymore. Someone new to this would probably think it's a bit louder than I do.
Yeh I can understand that your hearing would not be great working with that noise, my hearing is not the best as well, its from all the loud music when I was young. You still ear muffs but, don't you ? Thanks for the fix DW :)
I very rarely use ear protection, never when running this.
When running air tools I sometimes do.

Yeah it's actually a combination of magnesium hydroxide and aluminum sulfate based chemicals and using a polymer to bond everything together. The color turns grayish black because of the heavy metal deposits and dirt that these chemicals pull out.
It's really not dirty unless you slip and get into the sludge (which I have done). Really the worst part is the smell (I'm almost immune to it). I did have a pump hose explode one time and was cover head to toe. Generally speaking since I've been doing this a long time I come out as clean as I go in.

I allow no one else inside my station other than the occasional supervisor and they are not allowed to do or change anything. They come in now and then to check that all is running smooth or for EPA inspection. Other than that it's all mine.
Yes the good old EPA, they do a thorough job, its good but to be able to work by yourself.
